AASHTO T 336 Specifies the Verification Standard

AASHTO T 336 requires a verification standard composed of essentially linearly elastic, non-corroding, non-oxidizing, nonporous, and nonmagnetic material with a coefficient of thermal expansion that is at least 5 µ-strains /°C different from that of the calibration standard.

The Titanium Calibration Standard

The Titanium calibration standard has a coefficient of thermal expansion of approximately 9.2 µ-strains /°C.

The 304 Stainless Steel Verification Standard

304 Stainless Steel has a coefficient of thermal expansion of about 16.1 µ-strains /°C.

The Difference

The difference between the coefficients for Titanium and Stainless Steel is 6.9 µ-strains /°C, which meets the requirement of T 336.
