Choosing the correct USB flash stick for your Pine equipment

Pine offers two types of USB flash sticks for data storage. Both are fully compatible with personal computers, but each is intended for use in specific equipment manufactured by Pine.

RCUSBDE
The current version of this product is formatted with FAT32 in 4 KB clusters and has a total size of 2 GB. Viewed in Windows Explorer, it has a capacity of 1.85 GB. The plastic casing is black with a white logo. RCUSBDE is appropriate for use in these Pine products:

    • AFDL1 Data Logger
    • AFG2 gyratory compactor
    • AFGC125X gyratory compactor with electronics upgrade
    • AFG1 gyratory compactor with electronics upgrade
    • AFGB1 gyratory compactor with built-in USB ports
    • AF850T test press with digital recorder

All AFGC125X and AFG1 compactors had no USB capability as built at the factory; nor did the earliest AFGB1 compactors. From S/N 5643 to 5884, the AFGB1 includes an internally-mounted AFDL1 Data Logger. Since S/N 5885, the AFGB1 has built-in USB ports.
Many off-the-shelf flash sticks from office supply retailers are acceptable substitutes. However, a few of these flash sticks have chipsets that are incompatible with Pine equipment.

RCUSB144MB
This product is an integral component of the Pine AFG1A20, a USB upgrade kit for the 1.44 MB floppy disk drive that was factory-installed in every AFG1. RCUSB144MB is formatted with FAT in 1KB clusters; total size is 1.44 MB. Viewed in Windows Explorer, it has a capacity of 1.38 MB. The plastic casing is white with black text, specifying it is intended exclusively for the G1. Machines equipped with an AFG1A20 must use these specially-formatted USB sticks.

Choosing which product you need is simple. For all Pine equipment, other than the AFG1 compactor, RCUSBDE is correct. AFG1 owners should examine their machine’s USB port to determine which USB stick is appropriate.
